My LJ, they've taken my LJ - to Montana!

I'm crushed, I tell you, who will entertain me - comment fic, perhaps?

There's a guy at the bar. You don't really have to ask his name. There's a stool, there's a warm beer, the rest is self evident. His favourite bartender is busy with his day job, in some abandoned lot on the far end of Paris, and his other usual form of entertainment, a certain Highlander, has decided to become one with the universe, or stock up on his karma and yak butter, or something inane like that...

He's bored.

Really bored.

Damn it, I'm a very impatient little puppy, and I wrote fic; Highlander fic - with plot and porn!

So damn it. I'll post it here and see what it looks like, and repost later it at LJ if it comes back up!

What can I say? I've been busy!

Jan 2nd; A Highlander story for my 'What comes around, goes around' series (started for my HL50 table) and features a Methos/Amanda pairing. A word of caution, this ficlet carries a hard R/N17 rating, as there is actual hanky Panky in this fic (shocking, I know!) It's called THEFT

Jan 3-7th: A Doctor Who story in four parts, multi-era, and features Romana II, Ten, Four, the TARDIS, K-9, and a certain season four spoilery cast companion This is the only season four reference, however; although there are references to the Christmas special and the 'Time Crash' comedy special from last November. The Story is called Dimensional Curves, and the parts can be found here: PART ONE | PART TWO | PART THREE | PART FOUR. There is a strong flavour of humour in this story, but it does have a serious undertone.

JAN 9TH: More Who fic! This time featuring just Romana II and Four (which makes it 'Classic Who', I suppose) It's called BREAKFAST AT WOOLWORTHS and definitely falls under the category of silly fluff.

Jan 11th: CHAPTER FIFTEEN of my Highlander/Firefly Crossover, BLUE SUN RISING, the WIP that just keeps going and going.... action/adventure/romance/humour/angst - I tried to mash in as many genres as possible!

Well, it seems I'm still living at LJ, but I thought I'd post these links to all the stories, WIPs and ficlets I've written and posted there, in the last year, so you'd know what I was up to!

During the last week, I’ve been reading the many thought provoking posts and essays on my friends list, discussing the latest kerfuffle involving 6A/LJ and fandom. I’ll not go into the many points raised in regards to Livejournal’s rather random usage of their TOS; other people have discussed this matter and have phrased it better than I ever could.

But I will touch on this matter of the Miller Test and the rather strange idea that seems to be floating about in the offices of Six Apart and Livejournal that art and obscenity are two mutually exclusive concepts.

They’re not.

Art is intent, it’s as simple as that. It doesn’t matter if it’s a stick drawing or a renaissance painting. Art begins and ends with the concept, not the subject matter, or even the artist’s technical ability. It’s an expression of an artist’s desires and ideals, mirrored on a page, for all to see.

And, yes, some of those desires and ideals can be uncomfortable for the artist’s audience; they may find it disgusting, repulsive, or even obscene… but guess what?

It’s still art.

I have no idea how this ‘Miller test’ gained credence and popularity and, quite frankly, I don’t care. In my opinion, it’s a load of hokum designed to inflict a set of mores on an artist's concepts and ideas, and is not worth the paper it’s written on.

Art isn't supposed to be safe; it isn't supposed to be comfortable and cute, with kittens and puppys and the occasional risqué rainbow. It's supposed to challenge your mind and preconceptions of the world and, yes, maybe even shock you a little.

Does that sound like something that would pass the Miller test to you?
